With the assistance and support from the Hedin Environmental Group and the sponsorship of the Indiana County Conservation District, BCWA and partners received a Growing Greener Grant from the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to do an assessment of the Upper Two Lick Creek sub-watershed of the Blacklick Creek Watershed. The Upper Two Lick Creek includes the North and South Branches of Two Lick Creek located in east central Indiana County as well as the main stem Two Lick Creek down to the Two Lick Reservoir located east of the town of Indiana.
Sampling for the assessment is being conducted from late 2022 into late 2023, and the final assessment report will be produced issued by Hedin Environmental. The final report will identify the most significant sources of mine drainage pollution in the Upper Two Lick basin, and will provide a basis for future decision making on how best to address those pollution sources.
Partners for the project include Indiana County Conservation District (ICCD), Kiski-Conemaugh Stream Team, Saint Frances University CWRS, Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) students, and Hedin Environmental. ICCD administers the grant and provides overall project oversight which includes organizing meetings, preparing quarterly reports, reimbursement request and etc. Kiski-Conemaugh Stream Team, Saint Frances University CWRS, and IUP students help BCWA and the other partners conduct site reconnaissance and sampling. Hedin Environmental is the technical lead on the project, organizing sampling events and compiling the data for plan writing.
